Renee Phillips - The Artists Process

As a process-based artist, Renee often turns her art studio into a science lab. She manipulates enamel, latex and spray paints to achieve sculptural like results that droop, ripple, crack and pool on the surface.

Further engaging the elements of heat, wind, water and gravity, she pushes paint to its limits. She allows each color to display its individual ‘signature effect’, which is studied, layered and re-worked to reveal highly tactile and seductive surfaces that characterizes her contemporary color field paintings.

David De Souza partnered with Director Amber Tollefson of DocuBrand Creative to film Renee Phillips in her New York studio over the course of several days. Our mission was to capture high quality cinematic content to tell Renee’s story in documentary form as well as a shorter brand film that she could use on her website and advertising campaigns.
